GeoPoint is an interactive, geological database which gives users access to spatial data and mineral occurrences throughout Africa

This initiative is the culmination of over six years of research and collation of data and metadata on published African geology by experienced Geoscientists. GeoPoint has a particular focus on structural geology, tectonics, mineralogy and geochronology but also includes the fields of geochemistry, volcanology, geophysics and stratigraphy. It is an interactive, geological database which gives users access to public-domain spatial data and mineral occurrences throughout Africa. The database, populated from georeferenced maps in peer-reviewed journal articles and technical reports, prescribed by the SAMVAL, NI43-101 and JORC codes, contains more than 10 000 features from over 2000 sources. It is fully-catalogued and includes:

  • Locations and outlines of geological maps
  • Locations of cross-sections
  • Mineral occurrences
  • Geochronological/dating information

GeoPoint integrates with your project-specific ArcGIS data, via an ArcServer platform, thereby streamlining geospatial research for African exploration and mining companies, academics and financial institutions. Customised, detailed reports on specific areas can be compiled out of the GeoPoint database for clients, including financial institutions, who don’t require their own access to the database
